Article Overview
Installing a fiber optic splice box mounting bracket involves selecting the correct bracket, securing it to the mounting surface, and properly positioning the splice enclosure for safe cable routing and splicing.
Step 1: Select the Appropriate Mounting Bracket
Determine the type of mounting required: wall, pole, or pedestal. Use the accessory kit designed for your splice box model, such as the FIBRBox-PedMtgKt-UnivPF for pedestal perimeter frames or FIBRBox-PedMtgKt-UnivBP for poles or backplanes . Ensure the bracket is compatible with the enclosure and the mounting surface.
Step 2: Prepare the Mounting Surface
- For walls, ensure the surface is flat and can support the weight of the splice box .
- For poles, use the pole-mounting kit and secure the bracket with the provided straps or bolts .
- For pedestals, align the bracket with the pedestal frame and confirm it fits securely.
Step 3: Attach the Bracket
- Position the bracket at the desired height and orientation.
- Use appropriate fasteners (bolts, screws, or straps) to secure the bracket firmly.
- Verify that the bracket is level and stable to prevent stress on the fibers.
Step 4: Mount the Splice Box
- Place the splice enclosure onto the bracket and align it with the mounting points .
- Secure the enclosure using the supplied bolts or screws. For FIBRBox enclosures, use a 7/16” nut driver to tighten the lid and mounting bolts .
- Ensure the enclosure door can open fully for access to trays and splices.
Step 5: Prepare and Secure Cables
- Strip the cable jacket and clean the fibers according to manufacturer instructions .
- Attach strength member plates or forks to the cable using the supplied bolts .
- Insert the cable into the splice box entry ports and secure with clamps or tie-wraps to prevent movement .
- Route fibers carefully to avoid sharp bends and maintain minimum bend radius.
Step 6: Final Checks
- Confirm that all bolts and clamps are tight and the enclosure is stable.
- Verify that fibers are properly routed and spliced without stress.
- Close the enclosure and ensure the lid seals correctly to protect against moisture and dust . Following these steps ensures a secure, organized, and maintainable fiber optic splice box installation, reducing the risk of damage and maintaining network performance.
